Does Age Matter?
How to work therapeutically with older people
– facilitated by Alessandra Merizzi
One day course for: Counsellors, Helping Professionals and Therapists, including those in training.
Does age matter?
Ageing is one of the main phases of our life with its complex characteristics. Only recently the psychological field has developed an interest in this. Fortunately, the Freud belief of inflexibility in old age and impossibility of working with those persons has been overcome. Some psychological aspects may become chronic, but some may change. Working therapeutically, the chronic aspects can be explored and we could help the client to use these “pathological patterns” to achieve a positive change. Age could matter if a client can’t reach our premises, so an option could be to provide for a home-based service, where there are other interesting sides to consider.
The aim will be to explore some aspects of ageing and ways of working with older people in various settings. It will include a theoretical presentation, discussion and experiential work.
