Classical Gestalt Training 2014
With Peter Philippson
Gestalt Therapy was developed out of psychoanalysis and other influences in the late 1940s and early 1950s, mainly by Dr. Frederick Perls, a qualified psychoanalyst and analytic trainer, whose own analysis had been with Wilhelm Reich and who had been supervised by Karen Horney and Otto Fenichel (though important parts of the theory came from Laura Perls and Paul Goodman). Much of this original theory and practice has been overlaid with the very different things ‘Fritz Perls’ got up to in California in the 1960s, and by the more recent reaction formation, which never really referred back to the original ideas.
I have however found that a Gestalt Therapy based on the original ideas has served me and my clients very well, and that when I have taught the foundational approach nationally and internationally in many parts of the world, there has been much interest and excitement for it. Furthermore, the approach has been given a new lease of life in the writings of the late Daniel Stern and the Boston Change Process Study Group and modern neuroscience research.
I am offering a 15 day (5 x 3 days bimonthly Friday – Sunday) training in the classical approach to Gestalt Therapy in Manchester, UK from January 2014. The training will be in English and will be open to graduates and senior trainees in Gestalt Psychotherapy and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. The group will be limited to 15 participants. The training is non-residential, but there are local places to stay at a modest price.
The training will combine theory presentation and discussion with experiential work and practice in small groups. A certificate of completed hours will be available.
