Therapy Groups at MGC

Group therapy offers a powerful opportunity to explore how we relate to others, how we make contact, and how we navigate challenge, support and difference.

Our therapy groups provide a safe and lively space to deepen self-awareness, build connection, and develop more satisfying ways of being in relationship.

Gestalt group work focuses on the here-and-now – how you are in the group becomes material for exploration and growth. You’ll be supported to notice patterns, express experience, and experiment with new ways of relating, all within the richness of the group setting.

We offer a variety of ongoing and time-limited groups, each facilitated by experienced UKCP-registered Gestalt psychotherapists.

Weekly therapy group

This weekly in-person therapy group offers a consistent and supportive space for personal exploration and growth within a Gestalt framework. It’s an opportunity to deepen your self-awareness, develop richer ways of relating, and explore patterns as they emerge in real time with others.

Ongoing Women’s Gestalt Therapy Group

This long-standing therapy group offers a rich and supportive space for women to engage in deep personal work through a Gestalt approach. We explore relational dynamics, identity, embodiment and emotional process within a safe and lively group context.

We particularly welcome interest from women from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds, and value the diversity of life experience each participant brings.

Ongoing 2-Day Gestalt Psychotherapy Group

This ongoing therapy group offers a supportive and challenging space for people interested in personal development and relational awareness. Meeting quarterly, the group provides an opportunity to deepen self-understanding and enhance the quality of your relationships – in order to live more authentically and meaningfully.

Open to counsellors, therapists, trainees and anyone committed to personal growth, the group works experientially in the here-and-now, drawing on the principles of Gestalt therapy. Participants are invited to bring themselves openly to the process and commit to attending all four weekends per year to ensure continuity and depth.

If you are interested in joining, please contact Danny Porter to arrange a short informal conversation. This is an opportunity to explore whether the group is a good fit for your needs and intentions.

Residential Therapy Group (Purley Chase)

This is an ongoing therapy group for qualified therapists and senior trainees with significant prior therapy experience (not necessarily Gestalt). The group meets four times per year for two-day intensives, usually on Thursdays and Fridays. Some dates may shift to Wednesday–Thursday depending on venue availability.

The group serves as a space to explore personal process and relational dynamics within a supportive, peer-based context. New participants may attend one meeting before committing to the group. Once committed, a one-meeting notice period is expected before leaving.

Edinburgh Therapy Group

This ongoing weekend therapy group meets four times a year in the centre of Edinburgh. It is open to qualified therapists and experienced trainees from any modality.

Peter brings a Gestalt approach that emphasises how we discover and form ourselves through engagement in the world, rather than introspection. The group becomes a laboratory for exploring how we relate, respond and create meaning together.

New members are welcome to attend one group before deciding whether to join. Once committed, members agree to attend regularly and give one group’s notice before leaving.

Poland Process Group for Therapists

This self-managed group is for therapists (from any modality) based in Poland, with a focus on both personal and professional process. Meetings take place in a quiet countryside setting, with simple shared accommodation and meals cooked collectively.

The group was created to provide a supportive, peer-based space where therapists can bring personal and professional issues and experience collective support and reflection. The work is grounded in Gestalt practice, group process, and field awareness.

Costs include the trainer’s fee, travel and accommodation, a translator, and symbolic house contributions. New participants are welcome to attend one meeting before committing.

Bella Mia – Online Group Therapy for Women

“Bella Mia” means My Beauty – a name chosen to reclaim the dignity and vitality of ageing in a world that often devalues it. This new online therapy group is a space for women to explore the aesthetic and emotional aspects of ageing – particularly the visible signs such as wrinkles, grey hair, and changes in body image.

This group offers time for honest dialogue, shared reflection and embodied awareness, with support to adapt to physical change in ways that honour personal agency, vitality and choice.
