Expanding & Contracting: a Workshop

Breathe in

Pause

Breathe Out

Our bodies are in constant motion between opening and closing.

Our heartbeat, breath, and the way we relate to others and our

world all depend on this motion.

In times of challenge, we may have difficulty connecting with our vitality, flow, creativity and resilience. We may feel a stuckness in contraction or expansion.

In this weekend workshop, we will explore our current movement patterns, engaging with Gestaltbased body awareness and Developmental Movement sequences. We will include connecting with nature in outdoor spaces along with natural voice experiences.

In this liminal space, we will look at how we are connecting with life’s mysterious ‘dance’ at this never-before-experienced moment in our lives …

“Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.

If it were always a fist or always stretched open,

You would be paralysed.

Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding,

The two as beautifully balanced

and coordinated

as birds’ wings.”

BIOS

Shirley has been working with body-oriented therapies for over

forty years. Her core work is based in Gestalt Psychotherapy

and Developmental Movement. The depth of learning and

transformation that arises through increasing awareness and

acceptance of being-in-this-present-moment is what continues

to move and enliven her in her life and work. Lately Shirley has

been immersing herself in soul-making in nature, walking ever

more deeply into her own life through Vision Quest and the

Blessing Mirror. She now works in groups with the Way of

Council and is a student if Zen Buddhism.

Mungo is an explorer of body-mind-wild connection. Following a Degree in History (Leeds B.A.), he trained in bodywork (4Elements Massage, MFR UK), permaculture (Applewood Permaculture, Karuna), and nature-based rites of passage (WildWise, Wild Rites). In 2016 he co-founded Beech Hill: a 27-acre Natural Farming & Permaculture project in Cheshire where he tries to live in attentive, harmonious, and ceremonial relationship with self, other, land, and Mystery. His practices include spiritual ecology, contact improvisation, the way of Council, and Vipassana meditation.
