Gestalt Couples Therapy

–  facilitated by Peter Philippson

This one day course is aimed at: Helping Professionals.

The relational way that Gestalt looks at Self, always in relation to Other, is particularly valuable in looking at work with intimate couples.  Each human being is caught in the dilemma of being an individual on the one hand, while being a part of a larger whole on the other hand.  The couple is something else again, balanced between the individual and the wider world, each acting on and being acted on by the others (in the Slovene language, 2-ness is represented by a different plural than more-than-2-ness).  We can see that, for example, in the impact of starting a relationship on the participants’ respective families, friendship circles, working lives, and the impact of all these on the relationship.  Holding an intimate relationship through all these shifting tides is a complicated matter!

In this workshop we will look at how to work with couples, using this perspective.  There will be time for theory presentation, discussion, supervision and some experiential work.
